Layer 2 solutions are designed to enhance Ethereum’s scalability by processing transactions off-chain, which is basically like letting diners place their orders at the bar while they wait for their tables. Total Value Locked in Layer 2s is approximately $16 billion, showcasing their growing significance in the Ethereum ecosystem. In this context, rollups inherit security properties from layer 1 while executing transactions externally, ensuring a robust framework for transaction processing. Additionally, these solutions are crucial in addressing the scalability challenges that have plagued Ethereum since its inception.

However, integrating these solutions isn’t without its challenges—complexity and security risks lurk like unwelcome guests at a party. Yet, the benefits overshadow the drawbacks, laying the groundwork for Ethereum’s speed revolution, where transaction bottlenecks could soon be a thing of the past.
